Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a
limit to how much money you can win at the casino?
There
is no limit to the number of times you can play, however the most you can
bet at once is limited. (Casino 1 is limited to $9999, Casino 2 is limited
to $999). Of course, if you win big, your winnings will be multiplied by
several times.
How many Key
Code tools are there to unlock?
Current
PortSign features seven additional tools and features they can be unlocked
through the Key Code systems. More tools may be added in the future.
What are the
advantages of the Speed Scanning tool available through the Key Codes
system, over the standard scanning tool?
With
each scan, the speed scanner can scan 255 times more potential targets
than the regular scanner. (Target Scanner: 255 targets, Speed Scanner:
65,025 targets). Note that although the Speed Scanner will take a lot
longer to complete the scan, it will find many more targets.
Why does it
cost (PortSign) money to post to the public game server?
This is
to prevent people posting useless information to the server. (Spam). By
making it cost money, only important messages will be posted to the public
news servers. (For the most part). Of course, it is possible to post to
private news servers free of charge.
Is there a
way to crack passwords longer than 3 characters?
No,
however a tool in SYSTEMS II called Direct Path can sometimes be
successful in retrieving the password directly from the server.
I can't find
any target IP addresses to crack into!
Check
out the News Server, or run the target scanner on random IP addresses. For
more ways to locate IP addresses, check out Part 2 (Locating Servers).
There is a
server that I just can't crack, is it even possible?
If you
have tried all the different tools at cracking a server, and you have had
no luck, the server may not be vulnerable. This is rare, however not
impossible.
How do I
know when I should disconnect from a server
If the
red 'Trace Alert' warning appears under the menu, you should disconnect
from a server as soon as possible to prevent being caught. If you are
caught hacking into a computer, you will have to pay a large fine, which
is likely to significantly reduce your PortSign rank. To be safe, it is
generally best to disconnect before the Risk Factor reaches 45%.
I am trying
to crack a 3 character password but it won't crack!
Wait a
little longer. Cracking passwords is an imperfect science. If you aren't
able to do it after several minutes, it may be better to try cracking in
using another tool.
What is my
PortSign Hacker Rank based on?
The
more money you have in PortSign, the higher your rank will be. Each day in
real time, you will lose a very small percentage of your money
automatically. The reason for this is so current PortSign players will be
able to obtain top ranks, while people with High Scores who no longer play
PortSign will slowly fall away from the top ranks.
Can Key
Codes be removed from Servers?
Yes,
however only by advanced players with a lot of Key Codes. It also costs
PortSign money to remove a Key Code from a server, as it gives the player
who removes it an advantage - in that no one else can use that particular
Key Code. Once a Key Code is removed from a server, it will never come
back.
Can Servers
be turned on once they are turned off?
Yes,
however only by advanced players with a lot of Key Codes. It may also cost
PortSign Money to turn a server on. Servers will eventually turn back on
themselves, however it may take some time.
Will you
